In an era where Chinese automakers are launching models at a remarkable pace, one vehicle has distinguished itself: the Zeekr X. This compact EV, a sibling to the Volvo EX30, features sharper aesthetics and a promise of premium appeal, positioning it above typical offerings from Chinese brands.
Located in Greece, I recently had the chance to experience the Zeekr X firsthand. This ride is not merely another entry in a crowded market; it boasts some interesting features and well-crafted components that deserve a closer look.

Launched in late 2023 as Zeekr’s entry-level EV, the X has already undergone updates in China that brought enhanced performance and new options, although these additions have yet to reach the European market.
Built on Geely’s SEA platform like the Volvo EX30, the Zeekr X has garnered accolades such as being rated Euro NCAP’s safest EV, outperforming more expensive rivals like the Porsche Macan. But the Zeekr X offers much more than just impressive safety ratings.
Stylish Design and Strong Identity
As a relatively new brand established in 2021, Zeekr confidently showcases a distinct design language. While there’s a resemblance to its Geely counterpart, Lynk & Co, Zeekr positions itself as a premier player within the group, eclipsing both Volvo and Polestar in its luxury aspirations.
The exterior features sharp, modern lines that demand attention. The “double-edged” headlights and sleek profile are signature elements reminiscent of the Lynk & Co 02, but with a refined SUV stance. Additionally, the eye-catching glossy black cladding and streamlined character lines contribute to its dynamic presence.
Interior that Exudes Quality
Entering the Zeekr X reveals an interior crafted with premium materials, targeting the luxury segment. Soft-touch surfaces, ambient lighting, and elegantly designed switchgear enhance the overall aesthetic. The configurable steering wheel switches mitigate the need for constant screen interaction to control air conditioning and other systems.
Seating consists of plush vegan leather complemented by a user-friendly dashboard layout, featuring a 14.6-inch central touchscreen alongside an 8.8-inch instrument cluster. A 24.3-inch augmented reality head-up display enhances driving safety, allowing users to keep their focus on the road. Noteworthy equipment includes a panoramic sunroof and a quality 13-speaker Yamaha audio system, along with comprehensive advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
While the rear section of the cabin benefits from a longer wheelbase that provides ample legroom and headroom, the storage capacity does not match its spaciousness. Available trunk space measures at just 362 liters, with an additional 21-liter front trunk primarily reserved for charging cables.
Driving Experience and Performance
Though my experience was brief, I was able to appreciate the Zeekr X’s driving characteristics. The well-engineered SEA platform lends a robust feel usually present in larger models, complemented by a softer suspension that boosts comfort and sound insulation. The driving modes offered a satisfying experience, although distinct differences between them were minimal.
The 268 hp RWD version provides sufficient power for daily commutes, while the 422 hp AWD variant, although appealing, might be considered excessive for most needs. Future iterations in China show upgraded outputs of 335 hp and 489 hp, suggesting that we’ll see enhanced performance levels in upcoming European models.
Charging from 10% to 80% takes under 30 minutes with a 150 kW DC charger, although the Zeekr X lacks the rapid charging capabilities of its flagship counterpart.
Competitive Pricing
In Greece, the base Core RWD starts at €34,990 ($40,700), while the Long Range RWD variant is priced at €39,990 ($46,500). The top-tier Privilege AWD model comes at €44,990 ($52,300). Comparatively, the Volvo EX30 ranges from €36,175 to €48,448, while the Tesla Model Y starts at €36,175. All prices include a €3,000 incentive for EV purchases.
The pricing strategy suggests that the Zeekr X will be competitively positioned across various European markets, potentially undercutting both its Volvo sibling and the Tesla Model Y as it rolls out.
Future Plans and Prospects
Since its establishment, Zeekr has sold around 550,000 vehicles, initiating its European presence in 2023 with plans for broader market penetration by 2026. The brand is establishing research, design, and operational hubs throughout Europe, maximizing its footprint and aligning with long-term objectives.
With models like the 7X midsize SUV and the 001 flagship already available in Europe, Zeekr is also exploring numerous other offerings in its home market, suggesting a growing brand portfolio in the near future.
Conclusion
My time with the Zeekr X left a lasting impression; it surpasses its Volvo EX30 sibling in terms of space, comfort, and refinement while maintaining a more accessible price point. With stellar ride quality, a polished interior, and strong safety credentials, the Zeekr X emerges as one of the most impressive Chinese electric vehicles to hit the European market. Despite its unfamiliar branding, it presents a compelling option for those seeking a well-rounded compact electric SUV.
