The Cadillac Lyriq is stepping up its game with an updated motorized charge door for late-2025 and 2026 models.
This sleek design enhancement addresses a previous issue: the charge door’s klunky operation.
Cadillac’s Lyriq isn’t just an electric vehicle; it represents a fresh start for the brand, showcasing luxury and performance. It has successfully redefined what luxury can mean in an electric format, especially with the newly introduced Lyriq-V. However, there was an aspect that detracted from its premium feel.
Luxury should be synonymous with smoothness, and the Lyriq’s motorized charge port door embodies this. A simple press would send the door gliding down to reveal the CCS1 charging port. Initially, however, it felt more like a jarring experience, not what you’d expect from a leading luxury automaker.
The latest updates have transformed that jerky motion into a much smoother operation. During a recent Lyriq-V showcase, it was noted that while the mechanism is improved, it has a downside—now it takes longer to perform its action.
According to Alex Doss, the lead development engineer for the Lyriq-V, the opening mechanism has been revised. This update will apply to all Lyriq iterations produced from late 2025 onward. So, the last set of 2025 models will benefit from this enhancement, along with the entire lineup in 2026.
Sadly, for those who purchased earlier models, the old mechanism remains—there’s no quick fix. If the charge door experiences issues and requires replacement, there’s a slim chance the new hardware might be installed, but that’s not guaranteed.
The Lyriq represents a bold step for Cadillac, and while it continues to evolve, it highlights both the excitement and challenges of luxury EV ownership.
