Lamborghini’s Mini Supercar: Only a Burrito Away from Hummer H3’s Weight

    • The Lamborghini Temerario’s hybrid design results in unexpected heft.
    • This V8 hybrid is only 121 pounds lighter than its sibling, the Revuelto.
    • In comparison, rivals from Ferrari and McLaren showcase significantly lighter designs.

The Lamborghini Temerario, the latest hybrid supercar from the iconic brand, not only sets new benchmarks for performance but also raises eyebrows with its weight. This successor to the Huracán carries surprising heft, presenting a challenge for performance enthusiasts.

The official dry weight of the Temerario registers at 1,690 kg (3,726 lbs). Including fluids and applicable equipment, this figure can approach a staggering 2,000 kg (4,409 lbs). To put this in perspective, this nearly rivals the weight of an older model Hummer H3, which tipped the scales at 2,087 kg (4,601 lbs).

Closing the Gap with Weight-Saving Options

In an effort to mitigate this weight, Lamborghini offers the Alleggerita package—a £37,000 ($50,700) option that promises a reduction of 25 kg (55 lbs). However, testing by Autocar revealed that a Temerario equipped with this option still reached 1,905 kg (4,199 lbs), making it only 55 kg (121 lbs) lighter than the Revuelto despite the latter’s powerful 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine.

When comparing the Temerario to the outgoing Huracán, the discrepancies become even clearer. The Huracán LP 580-2 had a dry weight of 1,389 kg (3,062 lbs) or 1,500 kg (3,306 lbs) when fluids are included, creating a notable contrast to its successor.

How Does it Stack Up Against Rivals?

In the competitive landscape, the Lamborghini Temerario faces strong contenders. The Ferrari 296 GTB, despite being a hybrid, weighs in at just 1,648 kg (3,633 lbs) when fluids are added, making it a staggering 257 kg (566 lbs) lighter than the Lamborghini. The McLaren Artura takes it a notch lower, weighing only 1,552 kg (3,421 lbs), although its power output of 671 hp pales in comparison to the Temerario’s 907 hp and the 296 GTB’s 819 hp.

While early reviews commend the driving dynamics of the Temerario, indicating that it manages to handle its weight admirably, the increased mass could lead to faster tire wear and diminished fuel efficiency compared to lighter models. Additionally, in the event of a collision, that added weight could result in more significant impacts due to increased mass.

In this context, it begs the question: Are modern supercars like the Lamborghini Temerario veering too far into heavy territory, potentially sacrificing agility for additional power?
