What started as a shaky launch for the Lyriq due to software hiccups has transformed into something remarkable. In just a year, the brand has introduced the Optiq, Vistiq, Celestiq, and Escalade IQ. The Lyriq has been improved and is climbing the sales ranks, proving its worth.

Now, Cadillac is elevating the Lyriq with a powerful 615-horsepower V model.

This car is not just a feat of engineering; it showcases Cadillac’s readiness to compete with heavyweights like BMW and Tesla. After a two-day test drive in Seattle, it’s clear the brand is on a roll.

    Introduction to the Lyriq-V

The Lyriq is Cadillac’s inaugural electric vehicle and signifies a refreshed brand identity. Its sleek, elongated form exudes the flair of a classic Cadillac while maintaining a modern elegance akin to celebrated figures in fashion. With an already impressive 500 horsepower in its all-wheel-drive model, Cadillac needed to amp things up for the V-Series, drawing parallels to BMW’s M and Mercedes’ AMG divisions.

The Lyriq-V’s revamped motors boost its output to an astonishing 615 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. This new power translates to rapid acceleration: 0-60 mph in just 3.3 seconds, even outpacing the muscular CT5-V Blackwing from a standstill, while achieving quarter-mile runs in under 12 seconds with a top speed exceeding 130 mph.

Key Specifications of the 2026 Lyriq-V

    – Base Price: $79,990 (including destination fees)

    – Drive Type: Dual motor all-wheel drive

    – Battery: 102 kWh (usable)

    – EV Range: 285 miles

    – Power Output: 615 hp / 650 lb-ft of torque

    – Acceleration (0-60 MPH): 3.3 seconds

While these figures may not seem shocking in today’s EV landscape—where models like the Chevy Blazer EV SS rival the Lyriq-V—Cadillac’s engineering stands out. Their chassis specialists are among the industry’s finest. The Lyriq-V features upgraded anti-roll bars, Sachs Continuous Damping Control for adaptive suspension, a modified cooling system, and multiple drive modes.

    Drive Modes and Performance

One standout is Competitive Mode, which unleashes the Lyriq-V’s maximum power while allowing for more tail-happy dynamics through brake-based torque-vectoring. V-Mode enhances suspension performance and responsiveness, while “Velocity Max” optimizes power delivery without affecting the overall balance of the vehicle.

Despite its high-performance aspects and standard summer tires, the Lyriq-V achieves an EPA-rated range of 285 miles. It can handle fast charging at 190 kilowatts, enabling a 10-80% charge in approximately 40 minutes—on the slower end, but still efficient.

    Highlights of the Lyriq-V Experience

The Lyriq-V combines the attributes of a luxury vehicle with exhilarating driving potential. While it weighs in at around 6,000 pounds, it’s still enjoyable on the road. It performed admirably on twisty mountain paths, using its tech to maintain traction and balance, especially during spirited cornering.

Its comfort is accentuated by the Sachs CDC dampers, which adjust seamlessly from sharp handling in sporty situations to smooth riding in relaxed settings, making it a prime candidate for city and highway driving alike.

Inside, the Lyriq-V doesn’t disappoint. With an intuitive interface and a premium interior, it offers superb technology, including Cadillac’s hands-free Super Cruise and a high-quality AKG surround sound system.

During my time navigating Seattle traffic, I felt remarkably at ease, enjoying a massage seat and high-fidelity music.

    Drawbacks of the Lyriq-V

While the Lyriq-V excels in many areas, it remains an electric crossover at heart, prioritizing comfort over outright performance. Although capable and engaging, it doesn’t cater to those seeking track-level driving precision.

In essence, the Lyriq-V balances luxury and exhilaration, representing Cadillac’s ambitious stride into the electric future. It’s a remarkable daily driver with the chops for occasional adventure, proving that Cadillac is serious about its electric vehicle commitment. The Lyriq-V stands out as a performance crossover that meets the demands of luxury EV enthusiasts.

While it excels in certain areas, it does face some challenges. Drivers accustomed to a more engaging steering experience might notice the numbness and a feeling of inertia. For those searching for a true performance sedan replacement, patience is key; Cadillac’s plans for a more agile electric sedan, or the lighter Optiq-V, are in the works.

Inside, the Lyriq-V inherits some of the quirks from its non-V counterpart. Taller passengers may find the front seats lacking in thigh support due to the absence of extendable cushions. Additionally, the LATCH anchor bar in the rear seat can become a nuisance for some backseat riders. Despite improvements in cooling, the charging curve remains less than ideal when compared to industry standards.

Current owners of Ultium EVs are aware of the two main areas where General Motors seeks improvement: reducing weight and optimizing design. The Lyriq-V, tipping the scales at 5,980 pounds and lacking a frunk, highlights the need for progress in these aspects.

    Why the Weight Doesn’t Matter

Having owned sports cars like the Honda S2000 and Mazda Miata, I understand the concerns regarding weight in electric vehicles. Yet, the Lyriq-V proves that this additional weight comes with significant benefits.

This crossover offers the traditional advantages of electric powertrains: instant acceleration, seamless operation, and whisper-quiet driving. The Lyriq-V’s powertrain outperforms any internal combustion engine while being simpler in design.

This is why electric vehicles are set to take the lead. The Lyriq-V isn’t merely an alternative to the BMW X5 or Lexus RX; it presents a superior option overall with enhanced performance, smarter software, and simpler components that promise easier maintenance down the line.

Whether in traffic or on open roads, it delivers a seamless driving experience that strikes a perfect balance between ease and excitement.

As a daily driver, it shines. The Lyriq-V combines elements of classic American luxury—spacious interiors, robust suspensions, and elegant designs—with the functional simplicity of a modern, software-driven EV.

Cadillac’s evolution into the luxury EV market exemplifies a pivotal shift. This transition isn’t merely a necessity for brands; it represents a significant opportunity. With its forward-thinking strategy, Cadillac is firmly establishing itself in this evolving landscape, showing that a well-executed luxury electric vehicle can surpass gas-powered alternatives.
