Kia has introduced a fresh generation of the Seltos, focusing on achieving a blend of size and style while modernizing the interior. The brand aims for the Seltos to take a leading role in its worldwide offerings, which was emphasized during the reveal.
The latest Seltos embraces a bolder design approach, aligning closely with Kia’s recent models. It sports a futuristic front end with vertically stacked split headlights, and the main lighting elements are integrated into an expanded grille, all complemented by a redesigned skid plate finished in Satin Silver.
From a side perspective, visual elements echo those of the EV5, with flush door handles and ample plastic cladding. The elevated beltline and floating roof recall features from the original Seltos, while a dynamic crease through the rear doors enhances the vehicle’s profile.
At the back, a sleek roof spoiler and a new lighting configuration span the width of the tailgate, highlighted by vertical extensions shaped like hourglasses.
In addition to the standard model, the new Seltos will be offered in two distinct trims: the sporty GT-Line and the robust X-Line. Both trims share the same exterior design but differ in finishes, with body-colored accents for the GT-Line and dark gunmetal for the X-Line.
Three new hues enrich the color spectrum: Iceberg Green, Gravity Gray, and Matte Magma Red.
A Step Up in Size
The new Seltos is noticeably larger than its predecessor, coming closer in size to the European-spec Sportage. The updated subcompact SUV measures 4,430 mm (174.4 inches) in length, 1,830 mm (72.1 inches) in width, and 1,600 mm (63 inches) in height, boasting a 2,690 mm (105.9 inches) wheelbase.
This translates to an increase of 45 mm (1.8 inches) in length, 30 mm (1.2 inches) in width over the outgoing US version, along with 60 mm (2.4 inches) of additional wheelbase.
For perspective, the Kia Sportage available in the EU stands at 4,515 mm (177.8 inches) long, 1,865 mm (73.4 inches) wide, and 1,645 mm (64.8 inches) tall, with a shorter wheelbase of 2,680 mm (105.5 inches). The US model is even larger, measuring 4,660 mm (183.5 inches) long, 1,865 mm (73.4 inches) wide, and 1,665 mm (65.6 inches) tall, sitting on a 2,755 mm (108.5 inches) wheelbase.
While the Seltos remains a size classification below either version of the Sportage, the difference, particularly when comparing it to the EU model, has noticeably diminished.
A Modern Interior
The interior has undergone a substantial transformation, mirroring the look of Kia’s electric lineup. The sleek digital cockpit features dual 12.3-inch displays alongside a user-friendly panel for climate controls.
Additional design elements include minimalist climate vents and a selection of physical buttons located on the center console. The infotainment system supports over-the-air updates and includes an AI Assistant.
Other available features include a panoramic sunroof, head-up display, premium audio options from Harman Kardon or Bose, and customizable 64-color ambient lighting. Moreover, the SUV is equipped with a suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
The bigger dimensions promise a roomier cabin. Kia has tailored the new interior for family use, offering enhanced spaciousness and adaptability. Practical features include a reclining rear bench and a special Kia AddGear mounting system for various accessories.
The trunk now boasts a capacity of 536 liters (18.9 cubic feet), reflecting a gain of 103 liters (3.6 cubic feet) over its predecessor, aided by a foldable, dual-level cargo floor.
ICE And Hybrid Options
Under the hood, the Seltos transitions to the enhanced K3 platform, which is also utilized by the Kia Niro and K4, as well as Hyundai’s Kona and Elantra. Kia emphasizes improvements in structural strength, noise dampening, and chassis stability.
Engine options at launch feature a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter engine generating 147 hp (110 kW / 149 PS), and a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine, available with either 178 hp (132 kW / 180 PS) or 190 hp (142 kW / 193 PS), varying by market.
Transmission choices differ based on the configuration and include a six-speed manual, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, or an eight-speed automatic with a torque converter. Additionally, an all-wheel-drive option is available, paired with multi-link rear suspension and terrain modes for navigating Snow, Mud, and Sand.
A hybrid model, marking the inaugural hybrid variant for the Seltos, will debut in 2026. While precise technical details are still forthcoming, Kia indicates it will offer improved efficiency, vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities, and an advanced regenerative braking system.
Production of the second-generation Seltos is projected to commence before the year concludes. The initial release will start in India, followed by introductions in Korea, North America, Europe, and China throughout 2026. The U.S. version is expected as a 2027 model.
