The striking DS No4 Taylor Made concept offers a glimpse into how the luxury brand DS aims to elevate its high-end offerings, with an emphasis on performance and design. The first model in this exciting new line-up is set to be a sportier version of its popular mid-sized hatchback.
Unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show and developed in collaboration with DS Formula E driver Taylor Barnard, the concept builds on the existing electric vehicle platform but features a lowered stance, a wider track, and enhanced aerodynamic modifications designed to improve performance and visual appeal.
When asked about the possibility of bringing this concept to production, product manager Audrey Amer expressed some doubts, stating, “We are not going to do this one,” while leaving the door open for future enhancements. “On the DS 7, we introduced dedicated engines derived from motorsport that boasted increased power. Why not explore the same for the No4?”
In a similar vein, design chief Thierry Métroz emphasized that DS is committed to creating a more bespoke feel for its top-tier vehicles. “We are exploring performance-oriented variations for some models within our Performance Line collection, particularly the No4,” he indicated, highlighting the brand’s intention to enhance both aesthetics and performance.
Specifically, the DS 7 Amer referred to is the E-Tense 4×4 360, a plug-in hybrid flagship that generates 355bhp and can dash from 0 to 62mph in a mere 5.6 seconds. This model benefits from a suite of chassis alterations informed by DS Performance, the brand’s Formula E team, including a 15mm reduction in ride height and unique wishbones that widen the front track by 24mm while enlarging the rear track by 10mm. Additionally, it features robust 380mm front brake discs paired with four-piston calipers, enhancing braking performance.
Currently, the most powerful variant in the No4 lineup is a 222bhp plug-in hybrid that shares much of its drivetrain with the former 7 E-Tense 4×4 but is front-wheel drive. Future iterations may introduce an additional electric motor at the rear for all-wheel drive capabilities and boosted power output.
Some design features from the Taylor Made concept, such as its split lip spoilers, aggressive stance, low front splitter, and a striking two-tone paint scheme, could potentially find their way into production models. The two-tone paint in particular is expected to help distinguish these high-performance versions from the standard line-up.
Concluding, the DS No4 Taylor Made concept illustrates the brand’s commitment to innovative design and engineering excellence, steering towards a more performance-focused future while maintaining the hallmark sophistication and luxury synonymous with the DS name. It’s exciting to envision how these bold ideas may redefine the brand’s lineup in the coming years.
